Sort Through the Midlands Search Results Before You Pay
In Columbia, hair restoration options include PRP treatments, hair replacement systems, and surgery. PRP costs about $700 per session and may strengthen thinning follicles, but it cannot revive follicles that have stopped growing.
Surgical options include a local FUE surgeon and national clinics that refer patients to Charlotte. We recommend PRP with surgery only when it helps protect the existing hair around your grafts.

Decide Whether Surgery Fits You Today
We tell every Columbia patient where they stand before we quote a graft count, even when the answer is that you'll have to wait a year.
Your Situation
Our Recommendation
Your temples receded through your 30s, and the back of your head stays full
You fit FUE well, and we design a hairline that suits your age
You wore tight braids or locs for years, and your edges never grew back
We confirm the follicles stopped regrowing, then rebuild the edge with single-hair grafts
Your part widened after menopause
We map thinning across your whole scalp first, since diffuse loss often reaches the donor zone too
You lost hair in round patches
We send you to a dermatologist first, because grafts can fall out while alopecia areata stays active
You keep your hair long
FUT leaves a fine linear scar that longer hair covers, and we review whether it suits your case
You hope to cover a fully bald scalp
We place as many as 3,500–4,000 grafts in one session, starting with your front and midscalp
Book Surgery Around Your Columbia Calendar
Columbia patients often plan their year around a fixed schedule, and we pick a surgery date that fits yours.
- Your Schedule
You lead trainees at Fort Jackson
- How We Time Your Surgery
- We book surgery during your approved leave, and FUE spares you the linear scar a high-and-tight would expose
- Your Schedule
You work through the legislative session at the State House
- How We Time Your Surgery
- We schedule surgery after lawmakers adjourn in May, when the State House calendar slows
- Your Schedule
You teach or study at the University of South Carolina
- How We Time Your Surgery
- We use winter break or summer, letting you return to campus fully healed
- Your Schedule
You hold Gamecock season tickets at Williams-Brice Stadium
- How We Time Your Surgery
- We book after the final home game of the season, since new grafts need shade from direct sun during the first month
- Your Schedule
You spend summer weekends on Lake Murray
- How We Time Your Surgery
- We plan a fall surgery, because your grafts need three weeks before you swim in lake water

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I get a hair transplant while I serve on active duty?
Yes. Service members often schedule surgery during approved leave. Check with your unit about leave length and any elective procedure rules first, since policies vary by command. TRICARE treats surgery for pattern hair loss as cosmetic, so you’ll have to pay for the procedure directly.
Am I too young for a hair transplant in my early 20s?
Possibly. Hair loss in your early 20s often keeps advancing, and a hairline placed low today can look wrong at 40. We usually start younger men on medication and watch the pattern for a year or more. Once your loss slows, we design a conservative hairline that leaves donor grafts for later.
Should I add PRP after my transplant?
Sometimes. We recommend PRP for patients whose native hair keeps thinning around the transplanted area. PRP can strengthen those surrounding follicles while your new grafts mature. We decide case by case after we see how your scalp responds over the first few months.
Will I need a second procedure later?
Some patients do. Pattern hair loss can keep progressing after a transplant, and a man who fills his frontal hairline at 40 may want crown work at 55. We plan your first session with that future in mind and hold donor grafts in reserve. Most second sessions take place at least a year after the first.
